Dr. Sarah Coffin’s graduate students at St. Louis University’s Urban Planning and Real Estate Development school used the Southwest Garden neighborhood as a study project. Planning the Metropolis is the class title. The class assignment was to break down our neighborhood into several components: Physical Assets, Community Assets, Environmental Assets, Economic Development, and Transportation. Each of these components was analyzed, wherein positive and negative aspects were noted and recommendations were suggested based on opportunities discovered. The class made a power point presentation to our Streetscape Enhancement Committee and board members on Nov. 3. You can download the study (PDF, 1.6MB) here.
Our neighborhood association can utilize the research compiled in this study when applying for future grants and planning development.
