Dear Neighbors,

I trust this is finding you enjoying the sunny temperatures.  Here is the latest news I thought you might like to know about.   First and foremost, there is going to be a Crime Summit for all neighbors in the first and second district.  If you are interested in improving neighborhood safety this will be for you. 

 

NEIGHBORHOOD SAFETY WORKSHOP

Saturday, March 11th, 2017 – 2:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m.

What is Citizen’s Patrol? How do we handle social media?

The St. Louis Hills, Lindenwood Park, Princeton Heights, and
Southampton Neighborhood Associations invite you to a community
Safety Workshop
“Conducted by the St. Louis Metropolitan Police Department”
Topics to include:
• Citizens Patrol Training – with Sergeant Justin Johnson
• Q & A Session with Captain Michael A. Deeba, Sr.(bring your questions)
• Safety Product Info. & Vendors will be available. (View early, from 1:00 to 2:00)
• Basic home maintenance tips to make properties safer.

All 1st and 2nd District Neighbors are welcome to attend.

Recently I received an email from Officer Don Veile, Community Outreach officer for Second District Police.  He asked to have the following shared with the neighbors in the Southwest Garden Neighborhood.

Applications are now being accepted for The St. Louis Metropolitan Police Citizens Academy, a twelve-week course held once weekly in the evening.    This course wil be starting March 1, 2017, so it is important to register now.   Through the course, citizens gain better a understanding of the inner workings of the department through instruction in:
• the history & structure of the SLMPD
• predicting & analyzing crime patterns
• gang intelligence
• homicide investigations
• community policing techniques

If you are a block captain or  wish to become one, this is a perfect opportunity to gain more knowledge or jump on board.  Feel free to click the link to fill out an application.    Citizens Academy Application

Upcoming Elections for Board of Directors: 

Our association will have its annual elections for board members, at the April 24, 2017, general membership meeting. Each position is for a term of two years. We seek representation from all geographic areas of our neighborhood. Board members are expected to attend monthly meetings, quarterly neighborhood meetings, various events and be a current in dues as a paid member of SWGNA.  If interested, please email or mail a letter of interest to the office. The deadline for nomination is March 1st, 2017, to be eligible for the April 24th election. In order to vote in the upcoming election, dues must Be received by March 1, 2017.
