Dear Neighbors,

First of all thank you for your patience during this past month as we have been making changes to the web site. Thanks to Steve Kelly and Christopher Tysh, the web site has been transferred to a new web host. We are humbly grateful for their devotion to get the job done correctly, particularly since this was a volunteer effort. There have been other changes made with more on the way. Hopefully, this should not affect your ability to view the web site.

  • Sunday, March 3rd 3:00 pm: The Stupp Center, Tower Grove Park Lecture Series,“Descendants of the Gurney Family.”  Seating is limited, first come, first served.
  • Tuesday, March 5, 2019: Primary Election
  • Friday, March 22, 2019: Last day to register membership with SWGNA in order to vote at the April general membership meeting.
  • Friday, March 22, 2019: Last day to submit letter of interest to serve on the SWGNA Board of Directors
  • Sunday, April 7th 3:00 pm: The Stupp Center, Tower Grove Park Lecture Series, ” Historian with the National Park Service.”   Seating is limited, first come, first served.
  • Monday, April 22, 2019: Second Quarter General Membership Meeting St. Louis Activity Center 5602 Arsenal Street St. Louis, MO  63139 7:00 pm

Upcoming Elections for Board of Directors: 

Our association will have its annual elections for board members, at the April 22nd general membership meeting. There is one position open – member at large.   Each position is for a term of two years. We seek representation from all geographic areas of our neighborhoods. Board members are expected to attend monthly meetings, quarterly neighborhood meetings, various events and be a current in dues as a paid member of SWGNA.  If interested, please email (director@southwestgarden.org); or mail a letter of interest to the office. The deadline for nomination is Friday, March 22, 2019, to be eligible for the April 22nd election. In order to vote in this upcoming election, dues must be received by March 22nd.

Catch Up on the Neighborhood News with the Communicator~

Dear Neighbors,

Greetings to one and all.  We are almost in mid-January, time is passing so quickly!

The Communicator is now completed with all the latest news, simply click January  On page one, two and five you will find a complete listing of 44 Business Sponsors.  We are grateful because their support has enabled us to provide programs and services within this past year.

Don’t forget to check out page 4 of the Communicator for details about our first quarter general membership meeting on Monday, January 28, 2019  We  plan to have our Alderpersons Annie Rice and Joe Vollmer present along with our speaker, Bill Reininger, Executive Director of Tower Grove Park   The meeting will be held at the St. Louis Activity Center 5602 Arsenal Street St. Louis, MO  63139 from 7:00 pm to 8:30pm.

On another note, the St. Louis Metropolitan Police will once again be offering the twelve week course, Citizens on Patrol Academy.  Through the course, citizens gain better a understanding of the inner workings of the department through instruction in:

the history & structure of the SLMPD
predicting & analyzing crime patterns
gang intelligence
homicide investigations
community policing techniques

The course begins on Wednesday, March 6, 2019 and will conclude with a graduation Wednesday, May 22nd.  Click here for the application CAcademyApplication_201608

Last Minute Shout Out~ The Annual Holiday Open House is just around the corner.

Dear Neighbors, 

 

Join the Board of Directors and myself for  our Annual Holiday Open House!   

The Open House will be held on Monday, December 3, 2018 from 5:30 pm to 8:30 pm at the neighborhood office located at 4950 Southwest Avenue St. Louis, MO  63110.   As in past years, there will be plenty of Holiday cheer complete with a buffet.  Of course, this event is compliments of the neighborhood association. 

This is an annual event  that gets everyone into the Holiday Spirit.  We would love to see one and all.

The Open House will be held on Monday, December 3, 2018 from 5:30 pm to 8:30 pm at the neighborhood office located at 4950 Southwest Avenue St. Louis, MO  63110.  No need to bring anything but yourself and your family!   As in past years, there will be plenty of Holiday cheer complete with a buffet.  Of course, this event is compliments of the neighborhood association. 

This is an annual event  that gets everyone into the Holiday Spirit.  We would love to see one and all.

News Flash~  Santa Claus is Coming to Town.

Santa Claus is coming to Michel Funeral Home located at 5930 Southwest Avenue St. Louis, MO.  Join Calvin & Chrissy Whitaker and our dear friend, Santa on Saturday, December 1st from 4:00 pm to 6:00 pm.  Light  snacks and beverages will be served.  Along with a visit from the jolly ‘ole elf, there will be a girl and boy bike give away.  Live entertainment will be provided by Cari Lynn.

Third Annual Trunk or Treat at H. Michael Funeral Home is Tomorrow Night!

Dear Neighbors,

There is a wonderful and fun filled evening for kids of all ages planned at the Michel Funeral Home tomorrow evening, October 31st.   You are most cordially invited to attend~

What:  3rd Annual Trunk or Treat

When:  Wednesday, October 31st from 6:00 pm to 9:00 pm

Golf Cart Parade begins at 5:30 pm~

 Route for the parade:  The golf cart parade will start at 5:30 p.m. at the corner of Lilly Ave. and Daggett Ave. Parade will continue heading East on Daggett Ave., right on Marconi Ave., Turn right on Wilson Ave., turn Left on Mackland Ave., Turn Left on Elizabeth Ave., Turn Right on Marconi Ave., Turn Right on Botanical Ave., Turn Left on January Ave., Turn Right on Reber Place, Turn Left on Dalton Ave., Turn Right on Southwest Ave.

The 3rd annual Trunk or Treat will begin at 6 pm and ends at 9 pm. All are welcome to participate in our trunk or treat. Best decorated vehicle or golf cart will win $100 cash. Chili, hot dogs, mostaccioli and beverages will be provided. We will have a fire pit so your little goblins can enjoy s’mores!!!! Live entertainment. Rock painting & a bounce house! We will also have a drawing for a boy’s bike & a girls bike thanks to Angie Sabo & Joe Heinkel!

Upcoming Fourth Quarter General Membership Meeting~

Dear Neighbors,

Mark your calendar  the fourth quarter general membership meeting will be held on Monday, October 22, 2018 at the St. Louis Activity Center located at 5602 Arsenal Street St. Louis, MO.  The meeting will begin at 7:00 p.m.

You are most welcome to help congratulate all our volunteers who graciously served during the Heroes Appreciation Day on July 19th.  We also plan to give an awards to The Journey Church, Southwest Market and Royal Paper Company.  These three of the business partners who have always been so gracious to support this fine event.  

We are also pleased to announce two St. Louis Circuit Judges will be speaking on crucial matter that is important to all of us- crime and public safety.    They are:  Judge Christopher McGraugh of Division 27 trial judge and Judge Robin Ransom of  family court.   The judges are eager to keep the community informed of the court’s role in public safety and the justice system, as well as how judges are appointed and changes are proposed in Missouri’s appointment system.  Please note they will be willing to take questions from the audience but will not share information on pending cases.  

One of our neighbors, Sandy Grbac, will provide refreshments.
