An Update from 8th Ward Alderwoman, Annie Rice~

Neighbors, I am so sorry to not be able to be there tonight. I’ve been at the hospital with my Dad almost daily since the end of March after some pretty difficult news, and we’re coming off a particularly difficult few days. If I’m ever unavailable, please contact my secretary Sherri Bill at the Board of Aldermen and she can assist you until I’m able to. And I wanted to say thank you for your support in our recent elections! I’m grateful for the opportunity to continue to serve you.

If he’s not there in person to introduce himself: We have a new NIS in the 8th, as of April. Keith Minor will be working with us. His email is Keith.Minor@stlouis-mo.gov and his phone number is 314-657-1378.  He’s already getting acquainted with the ward and helping with outstanding issues. Any questions about Citizens Service Bureau issues, city utilities, nuisance complaints, etc. can be directed to Mr. Minor.
The Board of Aldermen has begun our new session as of April 16. We’ll begin the budget discussions soon, and you can follow along with the Ways and Means Committee through the City’s YouTube channel, if you’re interested.
MoDOT is working hard to complete the I-44 bridge work, and while closures of 39th Street will be intermittent, Tower Grove Avenue and Kingshighway will be planned and announced ahead of time. You can subscribe to updates from MoDOT directly from this page: https://www.modot.org/i-44-construction-st-louis-city, and I’ll post them as I get them on my Facebook Page as well.
The 50/50 Sidewalk Program was fully funded in the 2018-19 budget, and that work has begun in the 8th ward, and hopefully completed in the Southwest Garden neighborhood. Contact CSB to get on the list going forward for upcoming years.
Construction has also begun on the Tower Grove Park Access Enhancements, as you’ll have noticed along Magnolia. This major work to improve pedestrian access into our incredible back yard is the result of coordination with the 10th and 15th Wards and former Alderman Conway. You can still view the proposed plans on Tower Grove Park’s website here: https://www.towergrovepark.org/accessproject or the sign board on Magnolia.
If you haven’t yet heard, Taco Circus is moving into the old Three Flags Tavern space on Southwest! It’s great to have new businesses coming in, especially as the corner bank building is working quickly toward completion! I hope you’ve been able to get out and enjoy this gorgeous weather, and I hope to see you again soon!

If you drive by the office you are also going to notice some improvements.

Thanks to Alderwoman Annie Rice for facilitating the new construction of a new sidewalk. The City of St. Louis had the project completed. Actually, the concrete sidewalk had severely bucketed and was a pedestrian accident waiting to happen. Thank you Alderwoman Rice!

We would like to also thank Gary McCord, Floyd Wright and Al Jackson for the purchase and laying of new landscape timbers. We are grateful for the donation of landscaping timbers and the labor to install the landscaping timbers.
